Calcium (Ca) is major element in the body and an adult man of 60kg has nearly 1kg of calcium most of which is present in bones and teeth. The majority (99%) of calcium present in our total body Ca stores are found in bones and teeth. The Ca plays a critical role in blood coagulation by participating in the generation of active clotting factors in the blood, neuromuscular transmission, excitability of nerves, muscle contraction and as a second messenger in hormone action.
